How can NFC add value to your brand and enhance the user experience?

STMicroelectronics logoThis 12-page white paper explains how brands can use NFC to add value to products that combine a main unit with a range of accessories or consumables,  such as coffee machines and power tools, and to devices that are shared among multiple users, such as gym or laboratory equipment.

By combining an NFC reader in the main unit with a static or dynamic NFC tag in an accessory, “the whole product performs better, safer, and lets you provide a unique solution with a whole new range of capabilities to better improve the user experience and bring life to your brand,” STMicroelectronics explains in the paper.

“NFC technology makes it easy to implement product configuration as well as brand recognition and authentication functions, even for the tiniest devices.

“By adding value to the product, NFC enriches customer engagement, loyalty and sales. To further enhance the user experience, the overall system design can be combined with microcontrollers and sensors to create smarter products that offer new functionalities and improve reliability in addition to increasing product utilization and its capabilities.”

For devices that are shared among multiple users, NFC can be used to easily recognize the individual user and adjust settings automatically according to their individual preferences, ST adds.

After setting out the multiple benefits that NFC offers to brands operating in these markets, the paper goes on to provide technical guidance on how NFC can be integrated by a manufacturer into their products.
